  • OBITUARY

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Sherry Shaw, 97, on September 2, 2023.

Sherry was born April 9, 1926, to Ezra and Rachel (Sassoon) Hannon in Savannah, Georgia. She graduated from Commercial High School in 1944 and a few years later moved with her family to Brooklyn, New York. Blessed with beauty, grace and poise she worked as a fashion model, featured in various newspapers. In 1948, Sherry met the love of her life, David, on a blind date. They were married in 1949, and in 1956 they relocated with their 3 young children to Atlanta.

Sherry had a zest for life and a positive attitude. She was a role model and expected her family to do their best and be their best. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, and a loyal friend. Sherry had a deep sense of pride and will be remembered for her kindness, dignity and class.

Sherry lived life to the fullest and loved traveling the world with David. They celebrated 63 years of marriage until his untimely death in 2012. She also enjoyed playing golf, tennis and Mah Jongg. Sherry enjoyed entertaining and was the ultimate hostess, effortlessly delighting family and friends with her delicious Sephardic dishes at holiday gatherings and Shabbat dinners. Her home was always open to others.

Survivor’s left to cherish her memory are her children, Roberta (Ronny) Carr, Donna (Mark) Levy, Alan (Devorah) Shaw; grandchildren Steven (Sarah) Perkins, Ryan Carr, Jason Levy, Eden and Dalia Shaw; great-grandson Dylan Perkins; sister Rosalie Steinberg. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband David, son Stanley, sister Mary Jacob and brother Jack Hannon, all of blessed memory. She will be sorely missed.

Dearest Donna and Family, Your Mother was always very sweet and welcoming and I loved coming to your home as a child to play and spend the afternoon. I was so sorry to hear about her death. You were blessed to have her for so many years although I know that doesn’t ease the pain upon her passing. Although we will never forget Mrs Shaw, memories of her better days will hopefully return soon. Remember, “Sadness flies away on the wings of time” Thinking of you all with much love ??.

Dear Donna, I want to send you my heartfelt thoughts and admiration that I have for you and your MOM now and forever! Your Mom has always been such an awesome Role Model to me. I remember going to your Home and loved being in the Kitchen with the “Orange and Green Pok-A-Dot Wallpaper” and the White Contemporary Kitchen Table and Chairs. I remember all the awesome things that your Mom made for all her dinners and loved picking while she was cooking. I so remember all the details of being at your Home. When I think of your Mom, I think of Charm, Grace, Sophistication, and Beauty! I so remember saying to myself.. “When I grow up – I hope I can be half as beautiful and sophisticated as your Mom”. I remember, being in awe of your Mom’s makeup and was always so excited to see your Mom, as we was going out with your DAD! Truly so beautiful! They were such an awesome couple! I have the fondest memories of both of your MOM and DAD! They treated me like a daughter, and both hold such a special place in my heart today. Donna, you are such an inspiration to me! You are so selfless and have truly been there for your MOM in every way. So inspiring to me, and I know how hard this is. I just hope that everyday when you reflect on these precious moments and wonderful memories, you will know that your Parents are resting peacefully. Both of your parents would want you to focus on the happy thoughts and positive memories that you hold in your heart.

Dearest Donna, I am so very sorry to here of the passing of your beloved mother,Sherry. You have been such a devoted daughter to your mom in this difficult journey for Your special, kind and sweet mom, Sherry Shaw. What a blessing and a comfort you were to your mom. I realize how hard it is to take care of someone you love so much and know that soon their physical being will be leaving us. The only comfort I can give to you, was how blessed and honored you were to have God give you such wonderful and loving parents. I know this to be true, For there is not a day that does not go by that I do not think of and miss painfully my parents, but I realize how Kind God was to give me such wonderful folks. May Hashem give you strength and comfort during this time of grief. I send you and your family healing thoughts, Sharon Barton Kirsch ?

Dear Roberta, Alan & Donna, what can I say that hasn’t been said about your loving, kind & beautiful mother. I practically lived at your house all day over the summer playing w/all of you but esp Donna. Your mom was always so welcoming to me & made me feel at home there. She loved having her children’s friends over & making us lunch & gave us free-run of the house listening to the Beatles/Beach Boys, playing ping-pong & cards. She adored her family first & foremost, loved entertaining & frequently gave me very good advice about life as I got older. She always had a positive attitude & a warm smile. You were all blessed to have her as your mother. May her memory be a blessing.

Dear Roberta, Donna, and Alan… We have a double connection with your beautiful mom Sherry. I ((Linda) have wonderful memories of her when Roberta and I were little and you all lived on Old Biltmore! Sherry was so sweet and a great cook even when we were little! I loved going over there. When Bill and I got married, we realized that her best friend was Doris…Bill’s mom! What a coincidence. So the connection remained all these years. We send our love and prayers for strength and may the wonderful memories you shared lift you up and comfort you. May her memory be eternal and may her memory be for a blessing.
