OBITUARY
Geraldine Bane Gillman, aged 89, passed away Saturday, August 19, 2023, after a brief illness. Born May 31, 1934, in Raleigh, NC to Dorothy and Max Bane. She attended The University of Alabama where she was a member of Sigma Delta Tau sorority, forging lifelong friendships before graduating from The University of North Carolina/Chapel Hill. She moved to Atlanta after college and there she met and married Alan J. Gillman in 1956. They were married 45 years until his passing in 2000. After their two boys, Brad and Philip were grown, Gerry enjoyed 25 memorable years working at Saks Fifth Avenue. There were no strangers in her orbit….only a bigger audience to hear her vast array of jokes and one-liners. No distance was too far to travel for mah jong either; she played in several games for years. Gigi, as she was fondly known, loved Broadway shows and board games, especially Scrabble. She performed in numerous shows at the JCC and AA Synagogue and cherished singing in Bob’s Broadway Chorus delighting crowds at senior living facilities around Atlanta. Gigi was fiercely independent and took great pride in the accomplishments of her grandchildren, Darren and Nicole. As a family, our most treasured memories will always be summers at the family home on Lake Lanier.
Gerry was predeceased by her parents Dorothy and Max Bane, brother Si, sister Lynn, and husband Alan. Her survivors include her children, Brad and Daughter-in-law (Anne) of Atlanta, Philip, and Daughter-in-law (Michelle) of Cumming, grandchildren Darren and his wife Liz of Atlanta and Dr. Nicole Gillman of Richmond, VA.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, August 22 at 9:30 am at Arlington Memorial Park with Rabbi Joshua Heller officiating. Donations can be made to: Congregation B’nai Torah or the Atlanta Jewish Community Center.

Brad and Philip, So sorry to hear about the loss of your mom. I still have fond memories growing up on Biltmore Drive and spending quality time with you and your entire family. I think I spent more time at your house than my house in those days. I still remember your mom’s dry wit and distinctive laugh. She was definitely one of the “cool” moms on the street. May her memory be for a blessing to you both.
Yolanda Turner
My deepest condolences to the family. I worked with Gerri for many years at Saks Fifth Avenue. She was a very interesting, kind and hilarious individual. She always made me laugh! After she retired. I looked forward to her coming to work part-time during the holiday season. She'll definitely be missed. Rest in Peace, Gerri.

Gerry Gillman was one of the most talented gals who was active in Hadassah, back in the days when plays and performances were part of the Atlanta Jewish community scene. She had a beautiful voice and loved to be on stage. She adored her family and always put them first in her life. After those acting days, she worked in the gift department of Saks Fifth Ave., using the same enthusiasm and outgoing personality that she used on stage! She was loved by all who met her smiling, engaging personality. When her mother moved to Atlanta, she and my mother were carpooled to an older adult program at the AA Synagogue that they enjoyed together. I alway told Gerry that now that we weren't carpooling our children to Kindergarten, we were driving our mothers to their activity. What a delightful, fun, sincere person she was --- she will be missed. Our sincere condolences to her family.
Sandra Mislow

Linda Ulman Frank
Dear Bradley and Phillip…as you know in the 60s, you were all our neighbors on Biltmore Drive. I thought Gerry was one of the coolest moms on the street! She was a fabulous confidante to this teenage girl. I would love when she would come up and visit and hang out on the porch and sing the popular rock and roll songs. She sounded like a lot of the girl singers of the day (think Skeeter Davis)! My brother and sister and I were actually talking about her a few weeks ago. Then years later, I was in several of the musical fundraisers for the JCC, Hadassah, or Ort and Gerry was their shining star. I hope your wonderful memories of her lift you up and give you strength. May her memory be eternal and may her memory be for a blessing. Love, Linda Ulman Frank
Alan Ulman
Brad and Phillip, I have great memories of your mom from our childhood! God Bless her memory.
