The funeral service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery (1173 Cascade Cir SW, Atlanta, GA 30311) on Friday, July 14, 2023 at 11:00 am. Shiva will be held at 1073 Burton Drive NE, Atlanta GA 30329 directly after the funeral, Sunday (4 - 8 pm) and Monday (4 - 8pm). Victor Haim Romano was born in Atlanta, Georgia April 6, 1932, welcomed into the family by parents Abraham and Sarah Romano and older sister, Matilda Cohen. He had a close relationship with his family, especially his grandparents, Guma (Esther Berro) and Papu (Benzion Beton). Growing up he spent a lot of time working in his parent’s business, Garden Hills Deli, colloquially known as “Abraham’s”. In his free time he enjoyed playing basketball and was active in Jewish life, including membership in the Devoted Sons of Israel. Victor joined the navy as a young man, serving on the USS Macon.
Victor was honest and loving, both in his personal life and in his business. He started Victor Realty Company in 1958 and took immense pride in operating a business built on relationships rooted in integrity, trust and respect. He had a steady and successful method that allowed him to keep his business open for over 60 years while still prioritizing time with his family.
Everyone who met Victor remembers his kind and caring nature. If you complained about a squeaky door, you might find the next day the door opens and shuts without a sound, repaired anonymously. He would do anything in his power to help people without ever expecting anything in return, whether it was for family, friends, business associates, or even someone he just came across in the street.
Victor will also be remembered for his sense of humor and his dance moves. He loved line and swing dancing. He loved to tell jokes – he'd comb through joke books to find and tweak the best of the worst and often he'd write his own, testing them out on his family first. He never got tired of his own jokes, and the best of them will live on, passed on and retold by his loved ones who can only hope to do them justice.
Victor was very close to his children — Suzanne Holtz and Anthony Romano — and his grandchildren, who knew him as Pakavic— Chelsea Dunn, Kayla Dunn, Abbagail Holtz, Elias Adler-Romano, and Emma Adler-Romano — all of whom will miss him dearly.
