OBITUARY
Neil Greenspan passed away on February 16, 2023 in Marietta, GA.
Neil was born to Seymour and Rose Greenspan in Brooklyn, New York, where he spent his childhood rooting for the Brooklyn Dodgers and playing basketball. After graduating Wingate High School, he attended Brooklyn College and earned a bachelor’s degree.
After working as a junior high science teacher and stockbroker, and then serving as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army Reserves, he met his future wife Linda Kavett in 1970. Married in 1971, Neil and Linda soon moved to South Florida, where they opened the first three Baskin-Robbins franchises in the state. They also welcomed their daughter Ellen and son Paul. Neil eventually returned to the world of financial planning, where he worked as a stockbroker again for over 25 years until retiring.
Always quick with a joke, Neil was known for his sharp wit and distinctive laugh. He was also a voracious reader and had a great memory, which led to his extensive knowledge of obscure facts - or as he called it “useless information.” He was often found with his family at sports events, including Yankees spring training, minor league baseball, and the Miami Dolphins. You might also have seen him at the Pompano Park harness horseracing track, where he was quite the handicapper.
Neil is survived by his wife of 51 years Linda; daughter Ellen; son Paul; sister Merri (Donald); brother Glenn (Cindy); sister-in-law Joy (Mark); grandson Jacob; and granddaughter Melanie. He was predeceased by his parents Seymour and Rose and sister Abby. (He was also predeceased by his beloved four-legged friends Dobie and Koko, who ate better than many of the neighborhood children.)
In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift in Neil’s honor to Cancer Care (cancercare.org) or The SADS Foundation (sads.org).
