Andrew Lenard Chaiken, of Brooklyn, New York, passed away on October 2 after a short illness. Born on August 28, 1959, Andrew was the fourth son of Louis Chaiken and Syma Yellin. Andrew was a sweet, happy man with developmental disabilities that limited everything he could do other than give love and receive love from family and others who touched his life. He enjoyed eating pizza, Kit Kat bars, ice cream sandwiches and apples, and singing his life-long favorite songs from “Oliver!” Andrew is survived by his father, Louis Chaiken, of Tinton Falls N.J, brothers Michael (Nathalie) of Grand Mere, Quebec, Canada, David (Ellen) of Jackson, N.J. and Fredric (Rita) of Atlanta, Ga., along with an aunt, nephews, nieces and cousins. Andrew’s family is so grateful for the extraordinary care he received over many years by the dedicated and loving staff at the group homes in which he lived, especially at Avenue D in Brooklyn, personal advocates, and health care professionals. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to ADMH (Adult Disability Medical Healthcare), P.O. Box 88534, Atlanta, GA. 30356 or the CBT Includes Me Fund at Congregation B’nai Torah, 700 Mt. Vernon Hwy. NE., Sandy Springs. Ga. 30328.

My deepest and sincere condolences to the Family. It was always a pleasure when I visited Andrew to render Case management services, I would greet Andrew, and he will always reach his hands out to me to touch my hands, and then he would ask for Ice Cream or a kit kat bar, or he will sing a song for me, Andrew had a way of always making me smile and making my day brighter during each visit. Rest in peace My dear Andrew! May the Chaiken family find peace and comfort knowing that he will have eternal peace.
