Sandra (Sandi) Hornstein of Atlanta, Georgia passed away peacefully surrounded by her sweet husband of 62 years, her 3 daughters, her 4 grandchildren, and precious son in laws. She is survived by her fantastic brother, who loved her dearly and many wonderful cousins with whom she tirelessly corresponded. Sandi was the warmest, most loving person a friend could have. She was a tremendous support to her children and husband. She was an amazing cook, bridge player and a mah jong shark. She never met a stranger and was generous beyond words, gifting each person with intimate cards, birthday remembrances and personalized support.

As a library assistant at Pace Academy, she made lifelong friends with adults and children alike. Her friends described her as everyone’s mom. As a physician’s wife, she dutifully looked after her family and home while her husband labored at the hospital. At times, people turned to her for medical advice because of her wisdom. She is mourned by neighbors, incredible caregivers and magnificent friends from all over the country. As a young person she was a champion horseback rider and loved to dance. She loved the ballet and never tired of driving her three daughters to the Atlanta Ballet School, never missing a performance.

Let us say that she simply loved people. She never met a stranger. If you were lucky enough to enjoy her gracious company, you indeed know what we are expressing here. Her memory is beyond a blessing, it is an inspiration.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to a charity of your choice, Congregation Bet Haverim or Friends of Refugees. And most importantly, my mom would want you to have your kids and friends over for dinner, play games, read an excellent book, give love, give gifts, be generous, and care for everyone you meet.

A private memorial service will take place on Sunday, October 9 at 3:00PM with attendees welcomed via Zoom.

Dearest Terri and Hornstein family: Even though I never met Sandi, her obituary has introduced me to a woman I regret never meeting. It’s a joy to know she walked this earth and made such a positive difference in so many lives. It is also a comforting thought to know that now she is with her creator who is telling her : “job well done, your life and the way you’ve lived it, has pleased me”. My thoughts of respect and comfort are with each of you during this time of mourning, yet joy and peace.
