I am very sorry to hear of Rita’s passing. I became part of the Hebrew Academy family in 1984 and Rita was a part of my kids’ lives for so many years. In the early 90s when I became a teacher at the Academy, she became a mentor to me, and provided valuable guidance in working with and helping my students. She was such a likable person and I have warm and good memories of her. I hope Bernie and the family can take comfort in knowing the multitude of lives she touched and influenced for the better. I know she will be greatly missed. May the almighty comfort her family among the mourners of Zion and Yerushalayim.

My heart sank when I listened to my voicemail and heard the sad news about Rita. I met Rita when I first started teaching at the (then called) Hebrew Academy and Rita was teaching Science. That was back in 1982. I was in awe watching her teach as she shared her vast knowledge and opened the world of scientific wonders to her students. As Rita transitioned to School Counselor, her gift for being an attentive listener, as well as a practical and creative thinker set each student, parent, and colleague at ease. When it was time to plan our son's Bar Mitzvah, who did he want to have an Aliyah? Of course Rita was on the list. Rita's impact on all who knew her is far reaching. I will miss her quick wit, infectious laugh, wisdom, and ability to connect with others. Her love of Judaism and of her family were always evident. Indeed, I will miss Rita, but I will never forget her. My condolences to the Tuvlin family.

Jeff and family I am so sorry to hear about Mrs. Tuvlin. You mother introduced me to science at the Hebrew Academy and from there I have always loved science and nature. I am sure I made you mom crazy at times but she was patient and a great person. May her memory be for a blessing!
The Sanders Family
We were very saddened to hear of Rita's passing. Rita was an important part of our family for many years and such an important friend to our Mom. She was also my only science teacher at The Hebrew Academy. She says that we only overlapped there for a few months, but I remember so much from that class! Rita was so close to my mom that she went to Italy to the bar mitzvah of our nephew in 2006. She also always sent my children cards on their birthdays and always showed her love. We will miss her.
Stephanie & Woody Mazur

I got to know Rita when she was teaching at the Hebrew Academy. She did a career shift and got an additional degree in school counseling. She was a natural: caring, compassionate, intuitive, connecting beautifully with children, parents and teachers. Her innate intelligence, sense of humor and enthusiasm will be missed. Condolences and healing to Bernie and the family.

Stephanie and family, We are saddened by your loss. Rita's legacy lives on in the children she raised, the grandchildren she cherished and the students she engaged. May her memory be a blessing to all who crossed her path.
Sharon Fleitman
I first met Rita when she was the school counselor and my second grader was entering the school mid year after we had relocated (January 1999). My daughter was having adjustment difficulties and Rita helped us through it by recognizing my daughter would be happier in another class. Rita also told me she thought my daughter and another girl would hit it off. Rita was 100% correct. Suddenly my daughter was a much happier student. She and the girl are still friends. I’ve always been grateful to Rita for easing a difficult transition.
Rabbi Donald and Marilyn Tam
What very sad news we received from Warren today and Temple Beth Tikvah on the passing of Rita Tuvlin. Rita was a person who spoke her mind, was direct, always honest in her assessment of people and situations. She was also a positive and committed Jew, who together with Bernie, brough up their children to have strong Jewish ties. I recall how good she was to Bernie's mother. She had a fine mind, and a large heart, both of which helped create the good sense of humor which she displayed readily. I always enjoyed seeing her and hearing her hearty laugh. As I left after talking with her, I was always in a better mood than I was before meeting her. When I was Rabbi of Temple Beth Tikvah in the last three years of the 1980's and beyond into the early 2000's, she and Bernie played an important role in creating the social and religious culture of our Synagogue, which meant a great deal to me personally and not only to the Synagogue community. I know her loss will be especially hard for Bernie to carry, as it will be for the children, their spouses and family. To all of you go our condolences on the loss of this wonderful woman. All of us who knew her, are less for her passing. We will never forget her and that which she brought to our lives. May you be comforted along with all those who mourn in Zion and Jerusalem. Sincerely, Rabbi Donald and Marilyn Tam

Dear Bernie and Family: How we loved Rita! Our senior band groupie who attended every single concert you played in with the Callanwolde Concert Band and Atlanta Wind Symphony. She often took notes during the concert and presented her exclusive review to the conductor shortly after the concert ended. Had a quick wit and a sharp tongue. Jsu ask Rita her opinion on something and she'll give you an impromptu monologue. Will miss seeing you & Bernie at the "Brickery" as that establishment has closed its doors permanently. You shared your genuine love with Bernie, your family and friends. You will be missed but never forgotten. Rest in peace sweet Rita.
