OBITUARY
Harriet Parnes, 89, of Atlanta passed away, Thursday, March 11, at St. Joseph’s Emory Hospital. She was born in Bronx, New York on July 14, 1932 to the late Sol and Sonia Abramowitz. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother Sheldon Abramowitz, and son-in-law Robert J. Ruth.
Harriet worked as an administrative assistant after attending Hunter College. She then married and had three beautiful children. Harriet cherished her children and selflessly devoted all her time to care for them.
Harriet was on the Board of Hadassah, and very involved in ORT and the National Council of Jewish Women. She was a previous member of Ahavath Achim Synagogue for years. She loved needlepoint, decorating her home with her own masterpieces. She enjoyed reading, playing card games, watching Law & Order, and filling out the local paper’s puzzles, after reading the daily horoscopes. Hosting holiday dinners and planning family gatherings were the most valued events of Harriet’s life. She will always be remembered for being an elegant, classy, and trusting person who continuously put family first.
Surviving are her sister Lillian Rosen and her three children: Alan (Angela), Michele, and Gary, all of Atlanta, GA. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Derrick (Lauren), Michael, Alissa, Stefanie, Justin, Zachary, Rebecca, Abigail, Daniel, and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will take place at 2:30 PM, Monday, March 14, at Greenwood Cemetery, 1173 Cascade Circle, S.W., Atlanta, GA, 30311. In lieu of flowers,
memorial contributions in Harriet’s honor can be made to the Alzheimer’s
Association, or the Jewish HomeLife Organization.
