We will always fondly remember how caring and warm Dr. Handelsman was with us as my father lay terminally ill from multiple health problems in 2003. Dr. H was our angel who assisted us at that most vulnerable time, when we were attempting to say goodbye to our beloved father. The commonality of our Brooklyn (Sheepshead Bay) heritage instaneously created an unbreakable bond between us. May Dr. H rest in peace and his memory be a blessing to all of those he has treated and to the families he has comforted. He truly epitomized the meaning of a doctor. Lenny Thurschwell

Dr Handlesman was my long time nephrologist and was a delightful and caring person. When he first diagnosed me with ESRD he urged me to get a kidney transplant very early on and because of his proactive approach I was able to locate a suitable donor and I’ve lived a wonderful and productive life 11 years hence. I literally give him credit for saving my life. With sadness I mourn his passing, he was my friend.

My condolences to the family. I'm very saddened and heartbroken of the news of his passing today. I can still remember when I first heard his voice coming out the elevator all the way to the Nurses station in 5c many years ago. He was loud!?? We had a loud censor just for him. But he always had a great sense of humor about it. He was the funniest Doctor I have ever encountered since I was a little shy back then but he made me feel comfortable talking to him about the funniest thing and we would laugh so loud the censor would go off on us. He was always warm, kind and friendly to everyone he encountered. He would look for me in my unit just so he can tell me the funniest stories, show me funny photos, he would talk about sports, and politics, even though I don't know much or care much about politics. But I definitely laughed at his loudest and biggest voice and his funny story everytime. His spirit is definitely everywhere, like a beautiful light that he took with him. He will be missed by everyone and most especially by me. You may now rest in peace, Doc.
