Kathy Baumgarten Scheer, 67, of Sandy Springs, Georgia died peacefully surrounded by family December 11, 2021. Kathy is  survived by her loving husband, best friend, and soul mate, Jim Scheer, celebrating their 47th anniversary on December 28th 2021, children Emily (Morgan Allison), Allison Martin(Bradley) of Jerusalem, and Drew Scheer(Laura) of Woodstock. Grandchildren Michael and Tristan Scheer, David, Ephraim and Shmuel Martin and Bo and Hannah Allison.  Kathy was preceded by her parents Hans and Jean Baumgarten and leaves behind siblings Susan McCarter, Ellen Waldman, Nancy Butler and David Baumgarten, sister -in -laws Susan Scheer, Roberta Malickson(Jeff) and Beth Moss, as well as 8 nieces and nephews, all who felt her love.
Kathy was born in Atlanta and attended Briarcliff High School and Georgia State University. She taught elementary school for 30plus years and her school team was a huge part of her life. Kathy was lucky to have an amazing group of lifelong friends who she loved dearly and loved celebrating. In addition she was a member of Congregation B'Nai Torah, and a volunteer at the Sherith Israel Woman's shelter and would often celebrate her birthday playing bingo at the Jewish home.
Kathy's family was the pride and joy of her life. She loved spending time with Jim, her children and especially her grandchildren.  She loved going on outdoor adventures with her love as well as friends. She was the definition of "giver", from hosting countless Shabbos and holiday dinners to her delicious baked goods or her beautiful hand made gifts. She was always ready to jump in and give love and support when needed.
She was loved and adored by all who knew her and will be deeply mourned for years and years to come.

I taught with Kathy at Mt. Bethel Elementary. During our time together Kathy and I took many field trips. The attached photograph of Kathy is taken on board a field trip to the USS Yorktown in Charleston harbor. The sun is setting over Charleston and Kathy is talking to a child as she did so many times in her beautiful life. It is how I will always remember her.

We are so heartbroken to hear about Kathy. We got to know her when she was my daughter's 4th grade teacher at Mt. Bethel. I found out that we shared our high school and many common friends. Kathy was such a big help with some struggles my daughter was having in school that year. She was an amazing teacher and an even amazing person. We were sad when she retired because we wanted to have her the next year for 5th grade but knew she was moving on to spend more time with family and friends. Sending love and prayers to everyone who is mourning her loss. She will be missed. May her memory be a blessing.
